My health

Hello friends,

Many of you have asked about my health lately as I have had some changes going on. My tumor marker number has slowly been going up for the past 5 months. The doctor has diagnosed me with Stage IV colon cancer.

You can keep up with details and updates on another blog I have. It’s at www.caringbridge.org

When you get to that site just type in my name with no space. jangohring

I will post updates there and you can leave me a note if you want. The notes that have been left there have been able to lift my spirits greatly in the past few days.

I love you all and I just want to say thanks for your prayers and support during this time.

Hugs,

Jan

Sister-Friend Swap

From Dana P (Grandana to Ethan)

From Dana P (Grandana to Ethan)

Beautiful Key Chain

Here is a picture of the fun things I got from my sister-friend. As you can see from the picture, Ella thought the box was for her. She was smelling the lotion, candle and lavender soap. Sorry Ella, I’m not sharing.

Other things in my fun box included a handmade purse (by Dana..so cool), a beautiful key chain (from http://www.etsy.com/ Dana’s fav website) with a ‘J’ on one side and a picture of roses on the other, a handmade (by Dana) cozy for my water bottle… some purple (my fav color) fuzzy slippers (and yes Ella thought those were hers too..she keeps trying to steal them from me), and a book (Unspoken- a story about sign language). AND all of this great stuff came in a scrapbook storage box!!!! Awesome.

Oh…you can see all the purple post-it notes…Those are written descriptions of why she picked those things to give to me. Very Sweet.

Thanks to Dana, my new sister friend!!!!

Please pray for our church youth as they have set out on a mission trip to Leon, Nicaragua. They will be singing, sharing testimonies and preaching about Jesus. Pray for them as they spend time with the families at Humbergo Baptist Church in Leon, Nicaragua.

Here is a link to the daily blog so you can go and read about what they are doing everyday if you decide to pray. And you can see pictures of them as well.

Thank you so much in advance for your prayers.

We love pirates, too!!

Below you can find some of Bob & Larry’s music. They are the best!!

3 days at Camp

Nash

Nash and his mom

I went to Youth Camp for 3 days. I didn’t really know what I would be doing for those 3 days as I had no specific assignments. I just knew the only thing I wanted to do besides worship with the incredible Lindsey Kane Ministries (full band with an awesome drummer. JENNY Leman) and attend the evening services was to…DRIVE THE GOLF CART!! Yep..that was my goal. I was so very thankful when I found out that Papa Steve had his OWN golf cart.

WOW..so that meant all I had to do was convince the Papa that I had such a goal and he could help me if he choose to do so. And convince him to relinquish the KEY!!!! (that was really kinda easy..after all I was sleeping in his room and could have nabbed the key while he was snoozing IF it came down to that. Smile

So…On my first cruise around the camp I spotted this cute little boy (Nash) and his mom walking around. When our eyes met I KNEW he wanted a ride. So I invited him and his mom to go for a ride. Now..at this point I guess I should tell you that I had no agenda for WHERE we were going to go. Just riding the tractor. That’s what Nash called it anyway. WE found all the bumpy roads and went really fast. Well, as fast as you can go on a tractor.

The 3 days went by very quickly. I did use the cart for other very important tasks, like making deliveries, when necessary but the main priority was to entertain Nash…of course entertaining myself at the same time. After all..this was MY main goal for camp.

So we drove all around. We watched the kids playing on Papa Steve’s REC field, we rode through the sprinklers, we stopped to observe nature..a very important task for an almost 3 yr old boy and we stopped to throw rocks in the lake. I had a blast!!!

Now..at this point I guess I should tell you what I learned from this experience (So Now I Know..)

I realized how much I love little kids. Yes..mine have grown too big to be entertained by such trivial things like riding for hours on a golf cart. And I learned how much fun it is to make a little one so very HAPPY. He was thrilled to go for a ride. A very simple task…but it brought such great pleasure. I took the time with him, much like I did with my own kids when they were little, to find out what he wanted to do and where he wanted to go. All he had to do was say..”Momma G, can I ride on your tractor”? and my heart melted.

I never said my blog would always have a spiritual application but I think I see one here. God is like that with us. He wants to spend time with us. He longs to take pleasure in a relationship with us. Often we are too busy spend time with Him. Slow down today and think about including Him in your life. He really does want to take you for a ride!

And..last of all…I learned that I won’t mind becoming a grandma…someday!! Shhh don’t tell anyone yet.

Free Rice

So have you learned about Free Rice.com yet? Well let me warn you now…It’s very addictive. It becomes a challenge to see if you can raise your previous score. Mine is never much higher than about 34. I’m sure you’ll beat me if you try.

Here is a sample of a word I ‘guessed’ correctly.

hemidemisemiquaver

I had no idea what it meant…but here are the answers I had to choose from:

disbelief

chore

sixty-fourth note

pituitary gland

So what is your guess????

i love hummingbirds….

He is to the right of the feeder just above the little flower…

I hope you can see this cute little guy. I took this picture along with a video of several hummingbirds flying around my head from about 18 inches away from the feeder. There were 5 other feeders hanging around me and I stood in the middle of them to get this shot. They were not afraid of me. It only took me standing there for about 5 minutes for them to realize I would not harm them and then they started swarming all around me. It was kinda hard not to flinch when I thought they might fly into my head..but that was my own insecurities. They were very content. One of them even landed for a millisecond on the little stand. He was so cute.

I tried to load the video but for some reason I couldn’t get it loaded. I’ll try again because I would love for you to see it.

A fact about hummingbirds..the color that you see is not from pigment… it’s iridescence. The color’s brightness depends on the light surrounding it.They have the ability to show or hide their color. For the males this skill allows them to flash, show off or impress the females or to threaten other males.

One more impressive fact…many of these tiny birds fly the entire distance (over 2000 miles) from Canada to Panama every year including the 500 mile non-stop flight over the Gulf of Mexico.

So Now You Know…..too!

Happy Flag Day!!!!

Today is FLAG DAY. On this date in 1777 the Continental Congress approved the design of what would become our national flag. I hope you flew your flag with pride today.

And what better way to celebrate Flag Day than to spend the day at the Republican Party of Texas Convention 2008 in Houston, Texas. A very patriotic day.

Click the link below to see a video they showed today at the Convention. It is Red Skelton explaining the meaning of The Pledge of Allegiance. This video was recorded in 1949 when the US only had 48 states.

Here are a couple more pictures taken today at the convention.
